Cala Ferrera 2023

For the Easter 2023 Holidays, we jetted off with a group of friends to Cala Ferrera in the South Eastern corner of Majorca. As we were holidaying as a group, this was going to be a bit different to the holidays we have recently enjoyed. There was going to be less exploring and a more chilled-out relaxing vibe that I was looking forward to.

Flights and hotel were booked as a package through Jet2Holidays. We had an early morning flight from Bristol Airport. After landing at Palma de Mallorca Airport we had a transfer of just over an hour. We then had the afternoon to get settled into our hotel and explore the local area.

Our Hotel

We were staying at the Hotel Cala Ferrera on a half-board basis (although an all-inclusive option is available). Whilst checking-in, we were given the option of paying a small surcharge to upgrade to all-inclusive drinks for our evening meals. We took up the offer, which was just as well as without it you were unable to even get a glass of water with your meal…

The staff were friendly and the hotel was clean. However, it felt a bit neglected and unloved. It is in need of investment to get it back to its best. The Pool, restaurant and entertainment areas felt cramped. In the height of the season, I cannot see how there would be enough room when the hotel is full to capacity.

Our half-board offering included breakfast and evening meals. Breakfast was good and had both continental and cooked offerings. Evening meals included a salad bar, hot food and deserts. The menu felt limited and there wasn’t a lot of variety. However, you could normally find something to eat (even if it was only a bowl of chips). Due to the lack of variety, we choose to eat out on a couple of evenings just to ensure we got something a bit more substantial.

The local Area

The best thing about the hotel is the location. The hotel is situated a stones throw from Cala Fererra beach. From our balcony we were able to see the crystal clear, turquoise waters of the cove. There is a path from the hotel direct to the sandy beach. At the time of our visit there was plenty of room (although I expect it would be a lot more crowded in the height of summer). We had great fun snorkelling, and there were plenty of fish to see.

Just a short walk in the other direction is the beach of Cala Esmerelda. This is another picturesque sandy cove, but it has more hotels bordering it and we found it to be busier. It was another good location for snorkelling and there seemed to be more fish life.

The main strip is just a few steps away. It has lots of restaurants offering a variety of food, shops selling seaside essentials and holiday souvenirs and two Spar supermarkets. There is also an Entertainment Park with trampolines, a couple go-cart tracks, pool and air hockey tables.

Just a short fifteen minute walk away is the main town of Cala D’or. Here you will find a good variety of shops and restaurants. Ten minutes further on again and you will arrive at the marina. Offering approximately five hundred moorings, the marina hosts vessels of all sizes right the way up to super yachts. There are plenty of restaurants and bars around. Why not sit back, relax and enjoy a cold drink whilst watching the boats. If you are feeling more adventurous there are boats and jet skis available to hire.
