Zakopane 2023: Kasprowy Wierch

At 1987 meters tall, Kasprowy Wierch is one of the highest peaks within the Tatra Mountain Range. During the winter season, it offers some of the most challenging skiing and snowboarding in Poland. Whilst during the summer there are numerous hiking options on offer from the summit.
Kasprowy Wiech is also a popular year-round attraction for tourists who come to enjoy the spectacular panoramic views. Whilst it’s possible to hike to the summit, the mountain can also be accessed by Poland’s only alpine cable car. The cable car journey takes around 20 minutes and requires a gondola change at the midway point.
The upper station is at 1959 meters and has direct access to a restaurant and gift shop. Outside of the station, you can admire the views of the High and Western Tatras, including the nearby peak of Mount Giewont topped with a large metal cross., venture up the final 26 meters to the meteorological observatory, (the highest located building in Poland). You also have the opportunity to stand with one foot in Slovakia whilst the other remains in Poland.

We booked and printed our tickets in advance through the PKL Website. This had the added advantage that we had a timeslot booked and didn’t have to queue for a ticket. It should be noted that the gondolas can hold up to 60 passengers, and can feel very crowded!
To catch the cable car, you will need to make your way to Kuznice. Options for this include catching a local bus, driving and parking in one of the payable local car parks or if you are staying locally walking. We chose to walk as our hotel was only 2.2Km away, but the route was uphill all the way and dressed in our ski gear, we soon became very hot and found it hard work.
