Zakopane 2023: Snowlandia

Snowlandia is located just a few minutes walk from the Wielka Krokiew ski jump on the edge of the Tatra National Park. Open from late December until Early March, this winter wonderland made entirely of snow and ice. There are many attractions to keep you and your family entertained. Snow Labyrinth

The Zakopane Snow Labyrinth is largest ice maze in the world. First constructed in the 2015/16 winter season and has now become an annual attraction. With its 12 foot high walls and covering over 3,000 square meters, the maze requires over 60,000 blocks of ice and takes a team of 50 workers around a month to construct.

You enter via the snow fortress, and then wind your way through the maze of corridors and dead ends before eventually navigating your way to the exterior steps and ascending them to the top of the castle. Be careful inside the maze as the floor can be very slippery (my dad nearly fell over on several occasions). The maze itself is very disorientating, and it is easy to find yourself going round in circles.

In total, the maze probably took us just under 30minutes to complete and once we climbed the steps to the fortress, we were rewarded with great views of Zakopane and the Tatra Mountains. You also get to watch and laugh at everyone below running antlike through the maze.

Giant Igloo

One of the largest snow buildings in Europe, the igloo is a huge mountain of snow hiding a series of tunnels and chambers within it. In each of the chambers, colour changing lights highlight elaborate snow sculptures of your favourite cartoon and fairy-tale characters which have been carved into the walls.

Toboggan Hill

A 200 meter long hill for adults and children to launch themselves down. Your ticket price includes the hire of a sledge.

Mini Zoo

The Tatra Educational Park houses a small collection of animals that inhabit the Podhale region of Poland.

Refreshments

There are plenty of bars restaurants and street vendors in the vicinity of Snowlandia for you to pickup a snack or a drink. However we would recommend that you try one of the deep fried spiral cut potatoes that come served on a stick with a choice of seasoning for you sprinkle over it.
